Rail Ballast in Holland

Halsvik Quarry ship loading

The deposit at Halsvik, which consists of granite/gneiss, has substantial reserves which will ensure continuous operations for many yearrs. The excellent quality is described by geologists as particularly suitable as a high-grade aggregate in concrete and asphalt for the construction industry, but it can also be used for railway ballast, sub-base, river protection and offshore pipeline engineering.

Test results show that the stone is very hard, has good wear resistance and a specific gravity of just over 2.7grams per cubic centimetre for solid rock. Another important characteristic of the rock is that after crushing the shape is mostly cubic. The material conforms with the requirements of the relevant European Specifications to the respective markets.

At Halsvik Aggregates we have employed Dyno Industries' expertise and technology, and use their Slurry system for blasting. This gives us the most optimal blasting with regard to the size of the explosive charge, number of bore-holes per square metre, fragmentation and break-away from the rock. In addition to low costs, the most important arguments for using Dyno's Slurry system are good working conditions and safety.

The capacity of the crushing plant is about 10,000 tonnes per day. The crushing plant consists of a complete system delivered by Metzo / Nordberg.

Halsvik's excellent locations on the west and north coasts of Norway make for convenient transportation. The sites benefit from the deepest quarry quays in Norway with rapid conveyor shiploading facilities on the two big deep-water quays. The quay areas can accomodate ships of up to 60,000 tonnes capacity, handling and loading at a rate of up to 4,000 tonnes per hour. Our operations at the quays operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which is important to ensure efficient and effective transport.

The facilities enable the efficient loading of vessels and the business accomodates a full range of vessels suited to each receiving port's facilities. Strong and well-established relationships with the shipping community provide an unrivalled and flexible service to our customer.
